This series’ most powerful and fastest variant ever permitted for road use.

The BMW M4 CSL has been at the top of the Bavarian manufacturer’s priority list this year. It is the fastest series-production BMW to lap the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife track as it was spotted there being tested, clocking in in 7:20.207 a lap. As a result, the model obtained the highest value ever achieved by a BMW manufacturing car. The lap time was 07:15.677 minutes on the standard benchmark track, which has a length of 20.6 kilometres (excluding the straight at section T13). This is all thanks to the famous motorsports division’s performance enhancements, which have resulted in the most hardcore M vehicle yet. According to BMW, the peak speed of the CSL is 191 mph. This one easily goes 192.

The renowned BMW performance brand will now be available in South Africa. Only 1000 units will be made globally, with 15 allocated to the German-crazed South African market. It won’t be cheap, with prices starting at R3 570 038, but as the last two generations have shown, the CSL nameplate is one reserved for real aficionados and collectors.

The innovative material combination with carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) as well as unique lightweight measures not only reduces weight by approximately 100 kg and consequently fuel consumption compared to the BMW M4 Competition, but also boosts agility and performance. Few people will ever get the opportunity to experience the CSL’s combination of decreased weight and increased power.

PURE RACING GENES.

Sport, competition, and light weight: The BMW M4 CSL is a highly concentrated demonstration for BMW M’s racing craft, as well as its competence in powertrain and chassis development, as well as lightweight design. Its twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine produces 543 horsepower (405 kW) and 479 pound-feet (649 Newton-meters) of torque from 2,750 to 5,950 rpm. The M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder has improved power delivery and the distinctive M sound. The assembly has been improved and now produces an impressive 550 PS. The lightweight M precise strut in silver-grey helps to stabilize the vehicle and improve driving dynamics significantly. Backpressure is reduced by the optimal routing of the exhaust system’s pipes and their large cross sections. The system’s two electrically adjustable flaps and bespoke titanium rear silencer also allow it to produce a unique engine note designed specifically for the BMW M4 CSL.

Regardless, the M4 CSL here attained 168 mph (271 km/h) in the allotted time and made the achievement appear effortless.

Moreover, the driver can choose between “Comfort” and “Sport” brake pedal characteristics depending on the situation for optimum personalization. The reaction behavior is tailored differently depending on the characteristics. Deceleration is greater with the same distance of pedal travel in “Sport” mode, especially at low speeds, but the reaction of the two parameter settings is relatively similar at high speeds. At the BMW M Fest in October, the Bavarian automaker will debut the purpose-built machine on home turf for the first time.
