Getting to know current Aurecon Group Chair and newly appointed Zutari CO-CEO, Teddy Daka

Current Aurecon Group Chair and newly appointed Zutari CO-CEO, Teddy Daka previously Telkom Executive, and Etion Ltd JSE-listed technology group CEO. Daka is also the founder of Tedaka Investments, a company that has interests in various industries including telecommunications, defence, cybersecurity, consulting engineering, mining, property and railways.

With a career trajectory of chairing and serving on several major boards, public sector task teams and committees, Daka is an advocate of ethical, fair and equitable business practice. As a highly respected entrepreneur, business consultant and trusted advisor to both blue chip companies and public sector entities. Daka remains optimistic about the potential of Africa. “I am still passionate about the potential of our markets – even though we face severe challenges. Local economies are not performing as they should. I believe there is much that we can do when we start working together – as individuals, businesses and as governments.” As the world faces the impact of a devastating Covid-19 pandemic, we see alliances across traditional boundaries being formed to address this crisis. Daka believes we can unlock the potential in many of our markets when we join forces this way and partnerships will be key in enabling economic recovery post Covid-19.

Daka holds a Master of Business Administration from the Gordon Institute of Business Science, Bachelor of Arts in Business Management (Honours) from De Montfort University (UK). His awards include: IT Personality of the Year 2018 (RSA), Africa CEO of the Year 2018 (Awarded in Abidjan, Cote de Ivoire), Best Student of the BABM Degree for 1998. Daka is an all-rounder in terms of board expertise capable of participating in any committee of the board, he has chaired Audit and Risk, Remuneration, and Nominations committees. 

His current directorship and trusteeship include the Chairman of Bankserve Africa, a system operator for the national payment system. Trustee for the South African National Defense Force Education Trust, SANDF Education Trust looks after the educational needs of all the children of soldiers who lose their lives or badly injured from 1994 onwards provided the death or disability was not incurred as a result of fighting against South Africa.

Other roles include Chairman of the Infrastructure Advisory Committee for Department of Public Works, former South African Airways Tender Board Chairman, former President State Owned Enterprise Procurement Forum: Public Sector Procurement Awards President.
